The town of Francavilla Fontana grew around an ancient church built where a Byzantine icon of the Madonna had been discovered.
Among the main sites of interests the Palazzo Imperiali, originally a castle built by Giovanni Antonio Orsini in 1450. It was restructured at the beginning of the XVIII century by the Imperiali family. The palace has a rectangular shape with edges designed to imitate towers and richly decorated loggias that add refinement to the austerity of the building.
There are many interesting Baroque buildings to visit in Francavilla Fontana. Among these the Cathedral, built in 1743, over the remains of an Angevin church. Its facade is decorated in Baroque style with statues of Saint Peter and Saint Paul. Inside there are altars and paintings by Domenico Carella.
Among other interesting buildings Palazzo Giannuzzi-Carissimo, Palazzo Cariglia-Cito and Palazzo Argentina.
