Chieuti is one of two Arbereshe towns in the province of Foggia (the other is Casalvecchio di Puglia). They were founded in the fifteenth century by Albanian immigrants who were welcomed by the Aragonese kings of the Kingdom of Naples, thanks to the fraternal relations that bound them to the valiant head of the league of kapedan Albanians, Giorgio Castriota Skanderbeg.
The invasion of Greece by the Ottoman Turks in the fifteenth century forced many Arbereshe to emigrate in the islands under the control of Venice and in southern Italy.
