Castro is a town of medieval origins as can be see from its XVI century fortifications.
The castle, located at the entrance of the town centre, was built in 1572 for the Gattinara family over the ruins of a Roman fort.
There is also a nice Cathedral built in the XII century over the remains of a small X century church on a Greek-cross plan.
