Bovino origins go back to the Roman rule when it was called Vibinum. Here, there are many archaeological remains like the Roman walls, towers and the ruins of an aqueduct.
Inside the town there is the interesting Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta of Byzantine origin, later rebuilt in the Romanesque style, and a castle built by the Norman Drogone and expanded by Frederick II. Other interesting churches are the Church of San Marco, built in 1197, and the Romanesque church of San Pietro.
Nearby to see the Sanctuary of Santa Maria di Valleverde, originally built in the III century but completely rebuilt in 1930 after an earthquake.
