Ascoli Satriano is an ancient town with a tormented history. It was a Municipality during the Roman rule. In Medieval times the town rebelled against the Byzantium and it was the place of the decisive battle in the Norman struggle to control Puglia.
Interesting places to see are the Cathedral of Romanesque origin and the castle built on the remains of a III century bastion.
The area around Ascoli Satriano is rich in archaeological remains such as the Roman arch located in the Valle dell'Arco and the Roman aqueduct, situated in the Tesoro area.
