Le Cesine nature reserve
Le Cesine nature reserve, managed and protected by the WWF, is one of the last stretches of marshes that once extended between Brindisi and Otranto. It is an area with different natural habitats, dunes, wetlands, drainage canals, mixed forest and Mediterranean vegetation. There are also two ponds, Salapi and Pantano Grande, fed by rainwater and separated from the sea by a strip of sand dunes.
The reserve is home to unusual plants and numerous species of birds. Currently it includes 380 of the 620 acres of wetland in the area and is located by 'Le Cesine' farmhouse, used as a guest and visitor centre.
The Reserve is open all year round.
